Disha Mishra Dubey!!!

Congratulations Disha :D

On a personal note:

I have started my two-wheeler driving lessons - to make an 8 is supposed to gain you a license and it's not as easy as it appears! (For me!) My instructor anyways isn't much bothered, she just hands me a scooter and signs "Off you go"..."do whatever"!I do dream of a day when I don't have to depend on anyone else to reach somewhere!!!

Today as I was having breakfast our neighbour, Aunty P dropped by to hand over the keys of her place as she was on her way to Bangalore for a few days.
I need to mention that since last month a stray puppy and a few kitties have occupied/found shelter in "our place" which includes Aunty P, my home and Aunty A's which forms almost a sort of triangle. They keep moving and shifting from one place to another demanding things, playing, whiling away their time and so on. The best of it is when the puppy starts his game with the kitties. She is so affectionate and friendly with them that she can not stay away from them for long but each time she frantically 'plays' with the kitties one of bold ones just slaps her across the face. The puppy just whines and after you can see her after them without any grudge!
Now when Aunty P left, you had to look at the kitties...they just stood there with their "we-are-so-lost" look! I ran in, clicked a few pics and as soon as they saw me they headed towards me and started their "not-so-modest" plea.

The puppy will be featured some other time as she wasn't there when I was clicking these cuties :)

A friend of mine wanted to learn acrylic painting and I have started teaching her this week. It's really nice to share what one knows...and then it also helps us buy "our provisions" :)

Twisted

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

17x24.5 cm, Drawing book (Camlin Kokuyo)

Twisted, it is!!!

Rangoli - It's a traditional folk art of India known by various names in various parts of the country. It is considered auspicious and sacred by the Hindus. It's a sort of welcome to the dieties. It is considered to bring good luck.  It's drawn with dry rice flour or rice batter and sometimes filled with natural colours from vermillion and turmeric too. Now, there are loads of chemical colours available.

It reminds me of Celtic knots. Don't you think? It hasn't come out perfectly well here, was trying it after several years. It was a kind of ritual to draw kolam (rangoli)  as a child when I was in Bangalore on Tuesdays and esp Fridays. Back then it was a huge process as I remember it and the toughest part for me was to apply the dung on the ground which everyone else applied so easily and effortlessly, before drawing the kolam. Later I got the hang of it though. I was unwittingly reminding of rangolis as soon as I saw IF's  topic for this week, 'Twisted'.

Prehistoric - IF

This is an unexpected post...I wanted to play IF...after a really long time!!!
This week's topic is Prehistoric and I was reminded of our folk arts...

Prehistoric, A4, Pen and Ink,
Gond Painting*

“A painted landscape is always more beautiful than a real one, because there's more there. Everything is more sensual, and one takes refuge in its beauty. And man needs spiritual expression and nourishing. It's why even in the prehistoric era, people would scrawl pictures of bison on the walls of caves. Man needs music, literature, and painting-all those oases of perfection that make up art-to compensate for the rudeness and materialism of life.”  - Fernando Botero.

*Gond Painting - It is the tribal art of Madhya Pradesh and has it's origins from the Gonds, the largest Adivasi (tribal) community of Dravidian origin. The term comes from Kond which means Green Mountains in the Dravidian idiom. They inhabited the Vindhyas, Satpura and Mandla region. As most tribal culture would have it, they were closely bonded with nature as is every form of their art. They believe in supernatural forces and Gods and Goddesses as their protectors, their supreme lord being Badadev. They are an agricultural community.

It's been a good week. There's a lot happening here in my small hometown. The prime one to mention is the Dharmasooya Yaga under Thathanana Swami in Kinassery. Around 1500 delegates from various countries have arrived, even the Nagababas from the Himalayas. I need to visit there...just feel the positive vibes that would definitely surround the place...but need company :P

There's been a cousin's engagement and it went really well. Accompanied her to the beauty parlour and I was left wondering at the changes the beauty industry has accomplished from my time. A few years and a great leap. I am not a regular parlour-goer but I enjoyed all the sights and I felt sticky in this Palakkad heat just by watching it! My cousin, the bride-to-be was like a heroine from a movie. She was BEAUTIFUL! May both of them have an Amazing life ahead :)

Not to mention a Musical find whom I came across during my DW visits...Avi Avital, the Grammy nominee, the Mandolin player. His music is soothing while being vigorously energetic. I got into creative mode with Avi playing in the background.
