Temple Illustration - Mixed Media

There are a few...may be a lot many places that one would like to place in one's Visit List. I have very many in mine and the temples in Thrissur have been in them for quite sometime especially Thiruvambady and Vadakkumnathan temples.

They hold an age old charm, the construction is antique and the ambience, heavenly. It has its rich cultural significance and enticing tales to go with it.  The former may trick us to believe that its a small temple...this will soon fade as soon as you step inside. It is dedicated to the deities Lord Krishna (Unnikrishnan - The toddler Krishna) and Bhagavathy (Goddess) and other deities with Dravidian origin/names. The aroma, the energy, the divine chanting everything would transport you to a heavenly abode. Much more enriching was my Vadakkunathan experience situated on a hillock and spread across 9 acres of fortified land. It has four entrances and only the East and West are usually open to the public. It's supposed to be more than 1,300 years old and it is included as a National Monument. The walls of the temple are adorned with mural paintings which have been weathered down now depicting scenes from the Mahabharatha. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and you will find other deities as well. The most important fact is that these are the temples synonymous with Thrissur Pooram, one of the greatest of temple festivals in Kerala and is extremely popular for its fireworks and elephant displays with all the dazzling decor. This year's pooram is on 9 May, 2014.

For me, the walk inside this expansive and alluring temple in the twilight was a breath-taking one. My senses were exploding with the mellowed sights and sounds of the divine energy that one may easily get intoxicated with if one is ready to indulge in one. All thanks to Sis' Prabha and Bro' Babu who asked me to accompany them. I  am ever thankful to them for that surreal experience.

I painted this particular piece before my visit to the temple. I would like to consider that it was Almighty's blessings that helped me to reach His/Her province ;)

Spark

A refreshing cuppa accompanied by the soulful melody of nature gave her idea a rejuvenating 'Spark'...it reinforced her to believe "Yes, I can!"
She's off to start a new project :D

Winner of GA 4 and Space

It has been one heck of a week as there was so much going on... My brother was home as he fell from the stairs and tore his knee ligament. It was soon followed by my daughter's finger fracture and then my laptop crashed and my profile was lost for some unidentifiable reason. Now everything seems to have mellowed a bit. It's a phase and we have moved on.... :) In the pic below, you can see Anoushka's (Krishna's) fractured finger tied up! Poor girl, she was really brave indeed...even the Doc had to admit :)

So sorry for the delay in announcing the Giveaway winner. Thanks a lot for the co-operation and patience :D

AARTI RATHOD!!!

Congratulations Aarti !

With that I come to the end of the Giveaway Celebrations for now :)
And if anyone is interested in sponsoring one, you can always get in touch with me :D

Now, the prompt of IF last week was 'Space'...and I was reminded of one my illos which I had done last year while I was about to leave Dubai. There is so much I wish to create with the Arabic theme...hopefully someday I will finish it but first let me start it :) The problem is I have so many ideas cluttered in my mind... and I need to unclutter, minimize it as Robin says!
