Sketch-Time With My Daughter

I was digging through my old stuff when I came upon this sketch I had done few years back. It's done with oil pastels. I was actually overjoyed on seeing it...maybe was feeling nostalgic! This is no one I know, if you are thinking It's a portrait. I actually think I am not good at portraits. Anyways I got inspired with this finding and spent my evening yesterday doing some sketches very leisurely.

This is a very bare sketch done in about 5 minutes ( was losing patience as I saw the vase nearby and wanted to do that as well!!!)

When doing my vase I took a little more time as the lines had to do be done with a bit of care. All the while my 5 year old daughter was sitting next to me and doing her sketch. She finished it in within minutes and asked why am I taking so long! Finally when I finished with the vase, she enquired "why don't you draw me next?" She was beaming with such enthusiasm that I couldn't let her down. I thought I'll give it a try.
It hasn't come very clearly. But I think that wasn't bad!!! (Just giving myself a compliment:)). Her posture is one of whistling...she said I had to it with that (smiling all the while! Naughty huh?) And below is her sketch that I mentioned above. Cute, right? To give you a better idea, it's choco bar, chocolate cone ice cream, orange juice and chocolate milk respectively.
Hope you enjoyed your time here. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

  2. Your sketch time with your daughter is VERY much a 'Witness' (as in my comments about The Dance of Three.

The Witness is like a container - strong enough for someone else to do or be or create within the safety of the structure you create.

    Beautiful stuff!

  5. Deepa,

    Its the sweetest post ever.

I loved the one your daughter painted the most."choco bar, chocolate cone ice cream, orange juice and chocolate milk" Niceeee!!!

Only I would have done away with orange juice and replaced it with an extra large Toblerone, and it would be just picture perfect for me. :-)

And your portrait is not bad at all.

I wish I had any skill in painting. All I could paint were Sunsets, coz it doesn't matter if a color or two get mixed up in that! :-)

    Keep up the good work.

  12. Finally, I could do it! Many days I was desperately trying to leave a comment when I sit 'ere the system clicking on thoughts, but it never worked, and it was then I mailed u... So there was an error, I suppose and now it's been rectified. Good...

Sketch-time with daughter...the title itself is so captivating and it really tells the warm and deep bond btw the mom and the daughter.. U'v done it so well! I wanted to comment esp on this. When I read it, I felt it like a short story, and I could vividly visualize this moment of creation! The beautiful and naughty smile & expression of Krishna and your bliss in picturing it out on the canvas, it's so wonderful! Whether u hurried through or not, she has got that look!! Keep it up.. And of course, for any artist, the old mature or immature stuff they created in their early days will be so dear to their heart, aint it? It isnt just the beauty or perfection of the picture that comes to the mind but the thought or process of making it, and as u put it being nostalgic too, rite?
Tell Duttumani that I loved her chocolate coneicecream so much, and I would love to relish the same kind from her! Kudos, Deepz..
