Femininity - the quality or condition of being feminine; as it goes I personally am one in favour of this particular quality. There's nothing more wonderful than a woman being termed as being feminine. To carry oneself gracefully is a Quality worth appreciated. In these times when there is a startling excess of pouncing and assault going around, Feb 14th (Valentines Day and One Billion Rising) was dedicated to celebrate femininity by setting up a Street Poster Exhibition in Delhi. This initiative was ignited by Shilo Shiv Suleman in collaboration with Kitsch Mandi and Chance.org. Anyone interested in contributing could continue to do so until March 8th to shilo1221@gmail.com.
The first one is an attempt at typography and the second is one of the postcards I made as part of the Mail Art. It must have reached its destination.
The one in the right says "Serene Strong I am, Fearless!"
Here are a few pictures from the Street Exhibition held in Delhi:

I am extremely glad that I could contribute. Thanks Shilo for the opportunity.
And finally I am super happy to have received two postcards from the mail art swap....waiting for the last one :)

What a wonderful idea and so beautifully executed. :)
ReplyDeleteDeepa, what a wonderful tribute to Nirbhaya and other victims of rape/abuse. Art is more effective than some may think. Those posters all lined up together are a very powerful image. The work sends a strong message. So good of you to do this. xox
ReplyDeleteA beautiful tribute....
ReplyDeleteKaren x
that was such a tragic crime. What a beautiful way to bring recognition to create change. Your art projects are all so beautiful and I love the pics of all the pieces hanging in the breeze- what a tribute.
ReplyDeleteTerrific display of art which shows a powerful message. A great tribute. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! Empowering and moving and uplifting and, indeed, very much needed. Stories of rape and abuse and death for women and girls are heartbreaking and maddening. It's fantastic that this project is giving hope and voice to women, not just there but everywhere. Your contributions are GREAT! I love the simple but effective message of the typographical piece. They are ALL beautiful. And love those fun postcards!
ReplyDeleteLove to see your contribution for such a good cause. Your postcard looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAwesome tribute! Your art shines, love them all!
ReplyDeleteA heartfelt tribute with a powerful message conveyed. Half the battle is won when we overcome our fears. Love all the posters here, including yours.. Rabindranath Tagore's quote is very apt too. Glad that you had a chance to be a part of something so beautiful, Deepa :)
ReplyDeleteWow, LOVE the idea and love your contribution to it! Beautiful work on show here.
ReplyDeleteGreat posters and what a lovely way to have them all displayed.
ReplyDeleteThe most powerful thing about this is the recognition that we are all vulnerable to crimes of abuse and rape. Feminine strength is so powerful and I believe it will be the force that saves our world. This is a beautiful example of how we can overcome oppression in peaceful, powerful and feminine ways. Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThese posters are so powerful!
