Twisted

Twisted, it is!!!

Rangoli - It's a traditional folk art of India known by various names in various parts of the country. It is considered auspicious and sacred by the Hindus. It's a sort of welcome to the dieties. It is considered to bring good luck.  It's drawn with dry rice flour or rice batter and sometimes filled with natural colours from vermillion and turmeric too. Now, there are loads of chemical colours available.

It reminds me of Celtic knots. Don't you think? It hasn't come out perfectly well here, was trying it after several years. It was a kind of ritual to draw kolam (rangoli)  as a child when I was in Bangalore on Tuesdays and esp Fridays. Back then it was a huge process as I remember it and the toughest part for me was to apply the dung on the ground which everyone else applied so easily and effortlessly, before drawing the kolam. Later I got the hang of it though. I was unwittingly reminding of rangolis as soon as I saw IF's  topic for this week, 'Twisted'.

It does look like Celtic knots. So many cultures have similarities in their designs. Thanks for sharing their lovely one and your story about it.

This is gorgeous! I wasn't familiar with the art of Rangoli, but I can see it's similarities to Celtic knots that you are referring to. I'm fascinated by folk art, since it always gives you the unique flavor of the culture and an insight to their believes. Your design makes me think of an altar and it's complexity is mesmerizing, so I can appreciate it's sacred qualities. Blessings!

Fascinating. It is a beautiful piece of art, Deepa. I was following you until I got to "dung on the ground." Was this drawn on the ground? Or on paper? Happy PPF.

Deepa, i LOVE this! Yes, it does remind me of Celtic art! I think i would find it very difficult to do this - everything is so balanced and even... you did an incredible job. I love that you teach us about your culture through artwork. i've always dreamed of going to India. Maybe someday, we'll meet... xx

Now, BSNL has launched the best offers in the market of its own to latch on to its dwindling customer base in the face of the renewed competition in the sector.
