Celebrating the Joy of Giving

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

It is that time of the year when our homes would be lit within multi-coloured and stone-studded diyas of all shapes, sizes and kinds, when every heart would dance to the rhythm of the firecrackers, load up all possible delis...walking to and fro and roam around within accentuating fragrance of brand new dresses :)

I Wish Everyone A Happy, Peaceful, Prosperous and A Much More Sharing-Caring Deepavali :)

Any festival is associated with giving...love, affection, care, compassion, time or something material...any form of giving...that's the beauty and essence of festivals. Trying to spread the joy of giving here at Hues n Shades :D

As the environment is filled with joy and celebration, I am also celebrating not only the festival but also the fact that I am 300+ followers strong in my blog and 1170+ Likes in my FB page. Thank You for all the love and support!

I am celebrating with a Giveaway of one of my latest artworks. It is a Cherial* painting and a reproduction of the work by the Folk artist, Madhu from Andra Pradesh. An amazing artist!!! I had bought the artwork from him in one of the Tribal Camps held in Ahalia Heritage Village. I loved it and wanted to try it out, I am happy about the outcome :) My first attempt at Cherial, another folk art...!

The art is a miniature work - 13x13 cms. I just LOVE miniature works!!!
Yashoda & Krishna - Cherial painting Giveaway,
13x13 cms, Acrylics on cotton canvas

*Cherial painting is from Cherial Village in Warangal District of Andra Pradesh. It was a from of entertainment in earlier days - before the advent of technology - when people sought to story-telling with painted scrolls much like the Pata painting of Orissa and West Bengal. The stories are usually from mythology, puranas, legends and local tales. Cherial, however, also includes tales of everyday life of local village folks. It is restricted to Telengana region and is a dying art. The size varies from a miniature one to several feet long portrayals.

Winner of GA 4 and Space

It has been one heck of a week as there was so much going on... My brother was home as he fell from the stairs and tore his knee ligament. It was soon followed by my daughter's finger fracture and then my laptop crashed and my profile was lost for some unidentifiable reason. Now everything seems to have mellowed a bit. It's a phase and we have moved on.... :) In the pic below, you can see Anoushka's (Krishna's) fractured finger tied up! Poor girl, she was really brave indeed...even the Doc had to admit :)

So sorry for the delay in announcing the Giveaway winner. Thanks a lot for the co-operation and patience :D

AARTI RATHOD!!!

Congratulations Aarti !

With that I come to the end of the Giveaway Celebrations for now :)
And if anyone is interested in sponsoring one, you can always get in touch with me :D

Now, the prompt of IF last week was 'Space'...and I was reminded of one my illos which I had done last year while I was about to leave Dubai. There is so much I wish to create with the Arabic theme...hopefully someday I will finish it but first let me start it :) The problem is I have so many ideas cluttered in my mind... and I need to unclutter, minimize it as Robin says!

Disha Mishra Dubey!!!

On a personal note:

I have started my two-wheeler driving lessons - to make an 8 is supposed to gain you a license and it's not as easy as it appears! (For me!) My instructor anyways isn't much bothered, she just hands me a scooter and signs "Off you go"..."do whatever"!I do dream of a day when I don't have to depend on anyone else to reach somewhere!!!

Today as I was having breakfast our neighbour, Aunty P dropped by to hand over the keys of her place as she was on her way to Bangalore for a few days.
I need to mention that since last month a stray puppy and a few kitties have occupied/found shelter in "our place" which includes Aunty P, my home and Aunty A's which forms almost a sort of triangle. They keep moving and shifting from one place to another demanding things, playing, whiling away their time and so on. The best of it is when the puppy starts his game with the kitties. She is so affectionate and friendly with them that she can not stay away from them for long but each time she frantically 'plays' with the kitties one of bold ones just slaps her across the face. The puppy just whines and after you can see her after them without any grudge!
Now when Aunty P left, you had to look at the kitties...they just stood there with their "we-are-so-lost" look! I ran in, clicked a few pics and as soon as they saw me they headed towards me and started their "not-so-modest" plea.

The puppy will be featured some other time as she wasn't there when I was clicking these cuties :)

A friend of mine wanted to learn acrylic painting and I have started teaching her this week. It's really nice to share what one knows...and then it also helps us buy "our provisions" :)

The Giveaway is open to all and ends on Thursday 12 am, IST.

It's been a good week. There's a lot happening here in my small hometown. The prime one to mention is the Dharmasooya Yaga under Thathanana Swami in Kinassery. Around 1500 delegates from various countries have arrived, even the Nagababas from the Himalayas. I need to visit there...just feel the positive vibes that would definitely surround the place...but need company :P

There's been a cousin's engagement and it went really well. Accompanied her to the beauty parlour and I was left wondering at the changes the beauty industry has accomplished from my time. A few years and a great leap. I am not a regular parlour-goer but I enjoyed all the sights and I felt sticky in this Palakkad heat just by watching it! My cousin, the bride-to-be was like a heroine from a movie. She was BEAUTIFUL! May both of them have an Amazing life ahead :)

Not to mention a Musical find whom I came across during my DW visits...Avi Avital, the Grammy nominee, the Mandolin player. His music is soothing while being vigorously energetic. I got into creative mode with Avi playing in the background.

First GiveAway For You My Friends!

First of all, I was on a break not out of choice but out of necessity. L'tl A wasn't well...viral flu... "its in the air," the doc said. And then I wasn't well... Hope to catch up with every one of you friends soon...
Thank you my dear friends for your overwhelming responses and all your kind and appreciative words...I am deeply honored and humbled:)))

Anyways, on the happiest note, here's my First Ever Giveway... as part of my first bloganniversary.

Number One:
Calendar 2010, 5*7 inches

Calendar 2010 with my artworks. That which you see here is the foremost page. It is spirally bound and has 7 pages. It has a simple design and is designed by me:) The days are according to the UAE format. Though I had mentioned it to the printer not to do that, they took it for granted that its for the UAE inhibitants:) I made this especially for my yet-unkown-blogger-friend. Hope whoever receives it will like it!

Number Two:
Naadanpennu, 5*7 inches, photo print of acrylic painting
(parineeta series)

A traditional Kerala girl attired in kasavu mundu veshti (the dress traditionally called so is handwoven in offwhite with golden thread at the border) with palakkamala (the necklace) and jhimki (eardrops). The cream line on top of the bindi (red dot on the forehead) is made of sandalwood paste and is a sign of auspicion. It is also said to cool ones brain...

Number Three:
Celebration of Nature, 5*7 inches, photo print of acrylic painting

Warli painting, a folk art from Maharashtra, India. To know more about Warli paiting, read THIS. Its a post on Indian art in ATCs. I've painted the same one in 2.5''*3.5'', ATC.

Now, whoever comments to this particular post until the weekend - since a timing is utterly essential to keep track...I'll set the time to be 12 am on Friday (26.10.03) UAE time; their names will go for a draw. The names of each commentor will be written in a piece of paper and the lucky names will be picked by L'tl A. The winners will be announced in the weekend which is FRI and SAT here...UAE weekend - any of these days:) Obviously there'll be three recipients.

I am enjoying all this...Are you???
