21 Days in my Art World #3

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

Continuing Tara Leaver's challenge...

If you have missed out on the first and second, read Post1 and Post2 here.

Day 10 - Artist Hands

When one creates its like holding hands with God - I read that somewhere. I can’t agree more. Not just art but in every small things that we do in our daily life. Learn and practice to polish the skills...keep on creating! One of the greatest gifts is that we’re able to express ourselves (though not totally as I would want to...still learning) through paints and brushes or pen and paper or in some creative form that we would want to.

Day 11 - Turning Point

I had to think a lot over this as I do have lot of turning points... most of which was a leap of faith!!!! Right from my first major group exhibit in Dubai to moving back to India...my move to Kochi and finding my tribe there...to my first curated-coordinated show to “Repercussions”...getting an invite to the National Conclave to getting selected in the Annual Kerala State Exhibition... there’s so much for gratitude...particularly to all those who believed in me! I am amazed by each milestone that I’ve crossed - God, family, friends and well-wishers!! Love you all! And again, I do have miles to go before I sleep!!!😊

Day 12 - Current motif

Current motifs! It’s tough to answer! After some serious thought, I must say I don’t have a motif that I adhere to all along...unable to pin-point on one. But Eyes! Yes, that’s one aspect that I like to work on... the joyous glint, the gleam and the flicker, the unsaid stories of love, loss and longing, the unexpressed narratives all find its way there... they are the windows to the Soul!

Day 13 - Process Insight

My process insight varies with each medium. I wish to share about acrylics for now- a couple of things that arrest my mind right now when I think of process insight. I love working in layers varying between washes and undiluted acrylics (a kind of impasto feel). Washes go mostly in the background as under-painting, Sometimes even in the last layer depending on my subject. I like the feel of the gooey-mushy acrylics on my hands...the warmth, the texture, the lusciousness of it!!! I like the raw, unrefined and unpolished edges of the forms that gives a rustic look.

Day 14 - Sold

For a full-time artist selling ones artwork is as essential as air to breathe! Else you are a dependent artist! It is these sales that boost the morale of each artist and urges us to create more and keeps us going!! To think that someone loves your work and would like to have it in their cozy space is such an awesome feeling. It makes the art of creating all the more meaningful! .
Sharing a couple of sold works...some customized-commission and gallery ones.
.
I don’t yet have an online shop. Most of my sales happen either through this blog or Facebook. Yet to make a sale through Instagram. 😊

Day 15 - How I name my paintings

I love to write poetry. So most of my paintings have my own micro poems as its title. Sometimes I just feel the titles while doing the work. Else I resort to poems, lyrics of songs or even movie titles, though I haven’t taken the last two yet. But while curating I choose a theme/title first as in “Eye of the Soul” & “Repercussions”.

A Happy Week!

Getting settled after a move is something that takes a lot of time even if it is your 'one time home'... :) So in between all the arranging, start of school, dance class (my daughter's), errands to town for each and everything and all the other umpteen work...I am trying to establish myself in my hometown. Thanks to my neighbour and guide, Jayanthettan, for being a great help to get me 'a launch'... I finished a logo and visiting card job and I am glad that my client is glad! Amid my exciting schedule, I didn't get enough time to create anything new on canvas coz my work space isn't ready yet!

I would like to announce that Kristin's Summer of Color has started this year too with some exciting line-up of some gorgeous color range...choose the colors, vote for it and create...any art form of your choice. You could even win some fabulous goodies. The color combo that I had voted (too) has won this week!!! For more details, click here.

I am super glad to mention that our postcards have made a small appearance in Featuring Magazine's Issue 4. Page19 (preview page) long picture on the side...can you make out my Gond Birds, Madhubani Fish and my daughter's Duck and Duckling???

Finally I am leaving you with a few of my earlier works which I had created while practice :

 Brush of Passion - Acrylics

 Lighthouse - Watercolor

Lilypond - Acrylic

Lilypond is one of my very ol' work :)

100th Post and Happily Moving On...

100 posts…it seems to be a Big achievement for me… I have been going real slow & steady! I am extremely happy to have reached here. A blog that I had started to keep myself occupied constructively apart from the routine household chores inside the confines and to prove my mettle to myself has turned out to be something more… Every morning I log on to see who has motivated me or inspired me today. It is a great feeling!!! To be welcomed by wonderful people & their comments.
My support system….my followers have been the best…always by me during my thick n thin (though none are aware of itJ)…but as I have said earlier…my blog helps me to destress! I am in a different world where there’s no pain, only colours exist… Hues N Shades of various kindsJ

Gurushishya - acrylics, 9*12 inches cotton canvas

This is a commission work which I completed a few days back. It was ordered by Mrs. Soji for her daughter's teacher. She likes my style and had given me complete liberty. I love everything that's Indian and Indian themes have always enchanted me. So I resorted to the cool gurukul style where teachers were like parents when the kids were away from home. There was complete trust, faith & sharing of knowledge. And it was set in an idyllic environment where the students interacted freely and were one with nature. There was a strong bonding whether it be with teachers, friends or their natural surroundings.

Today is GuruPurnima and I dedicate my 100th post to all my teachers from my nursery onwards who have inspired me and instilled in me the knowledge, the virtues and the values that I uphold today...Fathima mam, Prema mam, Gracy mam, Kantha mam, Sarada mam, Gyanam mam, Rosy mam, Indira mam, Sati mam, Jhancy mam, Sosamma mam, Sati mam, Radha mam, Jayanthi mam; all my lovely Professors & Lecturers - Vijay Nair Sir, Geetha mam, Usha mam, Vinay Kumar sir, Vijay Mohan Sir, Sheela mam, Jayakumar sir, Annamma mam, Lathika mam, Latha mam, Late Geetha Atmaram mam, Sujatha mam, Late Sebastian Sir, Yamuna mam, Sakeena mam, Jaya mam, Zubaida mam, Ramaswamy sir, Kunhikrishnan sir, Haridas sir and above all Ravindran sir who was our HOD. There are some more names...some names that I have missed...
God, you know how much I love all of them!

Expecting your company all along, my friends...
Love

The Silent Sentinel

Thank you very much Blogadda!!!
I really appreciate it:)))

The Silent Sentinel - Painting on glass tile, 5*5 inches

The Silent Sentinel

Tossing in the turbulence
We tried to forge forth
And meet our loved ones
The kisses had become lashes
Our eyes blinded by foam & darkness
Our lives dangled on knife’s edge
Hearts prayed and chants uttered
But nothing helped us and our soul fluttered
Voices cried and raved
Merging with the waves and the tempest that swayed

“Captain, Are we lost?”  squeaked Tony
“No son, Lord is there to guide us”
Said our Captain with a heart that was heavy.

What was that???
A gleam of light went past his vision
Lord, O saviour – Was hat a sign?
Cried our Captain “This way!”
Every eye turned towards the light
There arose the silent sentinel
That has paved way for many a lost soul
Again, it has done it’s duty
I wonder, how many are grateful to
That sentinel which directs us…?

This is a poem I wrote when I was in college(I was 19 or so). I was rummaging thru my stuff when I came across this poem in one of my old diaries and I thought this would go well with my new glass painting. It's not perfect still I love it:-)

I was wondering about my sentiments at  that point of time. Do we change as years pass by? Does our basic nature remain the same? I keep assessing & evaluating myself time & again.

This weekend I am engaged in one of the commission works.

Sketch of a commission work (9*12 inches) for one of my friends who wants it to gift it to her daughter's teacher.

I am linking this post to Colours Dekor's Weekend Wrap Up 37.
